Development of double-sided multi-channel microelectrodes for a vestibular prosthesis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vestibular prostheses aim at substituting lost vestibular function by stimulating the vestibulocochlear nerve. For this purpose, suitable microelectrode structures have to be developed, making high demands on fabrication technology. Flexible, polyimide-based systems can be used for this purpose, however in order to insert such electrodes in the semicircular canals in the ear, adequate stiffness of the structures is required. Moreover, to increase selectivity of the electrodes and to reduce size, it is desirable to arrange electrode contacts on both sides of the polyimide foil. In the following, two approaches to create such electrode systems are presented and compared. While monolithic technology using a double-sided photolithography process is the preferred method to create very thin and flexible electrodes, thicker and stiffer electrodes can be produced by precisely gluing together two single-sided electrodes. This sandwich technology allows a faster and more reliable production of vestibular microelectrodes.

A Comparative Study of Multi-Attribute Continuous Double Auction Mechanisms
Auctions have been as a competitive method of buying and selling valuable or rare items for a long time. Single-sided auctions in which participants negotiate on a single attribute (e.g. price) are very popular. Double auctions and negotiation on multiple attributes create more advantages compared to single-sided and single-attribute auctions. Nonetheless, this adds the complexity of the auctio...

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is known to be crucial for the development of peripheral vestibular neurons. However, the maturation profile of the BDNF signal transducing receptor, tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) in functionally activated otolith-related vestibular nuclear neurons of postnatal rats remains unexplored. In the present study, conscious Sprague-Dawley rats (P4 to adult) were sub...

متن کاملSimultaneous Contralateral Vestibular Schwannoma and Glomus Tumor of the Temporal Bone- A Case Report
Introduction: Presence of vestibular schwannoma and a simultaneous glomus jugulare tumor is an extremely rare event. There is only one case report regarding the incidence of a contralateral vestibular schwannoma, along with a glomus jugulare tumor. Herein, we present the second case with a contralateral tumor. Case Report: A 69-year-old woman presented with a long hist...
متن کاملDesign Optimization and Construction of Double-Sided Linear Induction Motor
Linear induction motors have single and double-sided structures which are used in special applications, according to their advantages and disadvantages. Due to advantages such as lack of normal forces in double-sided type, these motors are more controllable and popular than the single-sided type, especially for transportation applications. In literature, single-sided linear induction motors ha...
